Why I’m starting YouTube

I know I know, moving over to the dark side. I never thought I’d do YouTube for a variety of reasons. I thought I was more likely to get found by the kids at school. I worried that I’d look shit on camera. I dreaded committing any of the cardinal sins I get so aggravated by and I honestly didn’t think I could handle the inevitable ‘thumbs down’ and troll comments.

Why did I change my mind then? A couple of nights ago I was in a blogging frenzy. I had SO many ideas that I was jotting down. Then an idea came to me about doing my own sort of dating show. It was a pipe dream of ‘oh maybe someday I’ll be recognisable enough to do that.’ That then turned into – well, I’ll have to make myself recognisable.

I’ve hidden behind my blog quite a bit as it grew, always terrified that as a teacher I’d get in trouble for talking about sex and penises if it was ever found. I then plucked up the courage to tell a few work mates before we broke up for summer and their reaction – so positive and supportive – inspired me to really give it a go.

Then as I’ve attended a variety of events, more and more bloggers were telling me I should start a YouTube and use it to talk about dating and all the things that come with it. I still wasn’t sure so just stuck to my Snapchat ramblings. But I found myself enjoying talking crap on there and begun to think that actually, YouTube is not that different.

Then last night I put a poll up on Twitter about starting a channel and the things you guys would like to see and luckily you seemed to be digging the ideas I had.

So I set up my channel, which you can find here and today I’m attempting my first video which will be an introduction to my channel and telling you about the things you can expect.

I’ll be filming on my Olympus Pen. In my dark AF flat. With no studio set up or twinkly fairy lights behind me for decoration but I’m not going to be too hard on myself. Everyone has to start somewhere.

If you’d like to subscribe and be ready to see the first video when it drops later, you can here.  I also now have a snazzy YouTube icon in my social media buttons. CHECK ME OUT.

I’ll also be doing a Twitter giveaway to celebrate launching the channel so keep your eyes peeled.

In the meantime, please keep tweeting me/leaving comments on the kind of content you’d like to see!

I started my channel because I wanted to better explain things that weren’t always possible in text. The trolling can sometimes be irritating but I just think that pretty much every channel, big or small, gets it. Which makes it easier to deal with. Blocking trolls is easy, too. Best of luck with your channel – try filming infront of a window if possible. You can pick up cheap softbox lights on Amazon to boost the brightness a little. Good luck!
