London

London’s where I live.

London’s where I Uber home at 4am after blistering my feet and sweating in my ASOS dress whilst dancing and singing to Sean Paul in a busy club.
London’s where I queue for brunch because it looks good on Instagram.
London’s where I can go to an ‘End of the Financial Year’ The Office party and be a blind date contestant.
London’s where I can pay double figures for a G&T on a rooftop bar so I can marvel at its wonderful vista.
London’s where I wake up every morning and struggle to get out of bed until a gentle voice reminds me that the city and my life have so much more to give.

London’s where I can meet my sister in a beer garden and plan our yearly holiday. The holiday that solidifies our bond and is our time to catch up.
London’s where all of my family were born and raised.
London’s where my Mum grew up on a Lavender Hill estate and played out in the roads before being called home to eat fish and chips.
London’s where my Mum and Dad met at a local bingo hall. Him the charming caller and her the lucky winner.
London’s where they got married, at Chelsea Registry Office.
London’s where my Dad’s family had an apartment in Kensington that we would visit and get the same dinner each time. Richmond sausages and exactly 10 chips.
London’s where we saw Princess Diana dining at a restaurant on one of those visits.
London’s where my Grandad cleared bins, washed windows and defended the country in War.
London’s where he would take my sister and I on trips when we bunked off school.
London’s where he placed dog bets at Walthamstow and treated the family with his winnings.
London’s where my sister and I travelled to Tooting to buy my Mum her favourite meal – pie and mash, from her favourite restaurant, knowing it would be her last time eating it.

London’s where my friends are.┬áLondon’s where we’ve looked at each other whilst ugly crying at a comedy show.
London’s where we’ve been on their hen-dos.
London’s where we get pizza and talk about everything that matters and nothing that matters.
London’s where we catch up if we haven’t seen each other for months.
London’s where we go to festivals and dick about in the blazing sun whilst drinking cider that’s just that bit too warm.
London’s where we have picnics in Battersea Park and laugh with my friend who brings her own pre made sandwiches so she doesn’t have to spend any money.
London’s where we go to beer festivals and realise the ratio of men to women is highly in our favour, even if all the men look like our gross Uncles.
London’s where we pass old friends, ones that used to mean the world to us, on the street with just a solemn nod in their direction.
London’s where just a simple catch up with a friend, over a vanilla latte can literally save your life.

London’s where I went to university.
London’s where I met uni friends that are now people I couldn’t live without.
London’s where I did a course I was so passionate about that it was the only thing I’d ever stuck at, in life, for more than a year.
London’s where I realised that if I worked hard enough and pushed myself enough, I could achieve anything.
London’s where I graduated at Westminster Cathedral and where I collected my degree certificate with my Mum, who had been brought from hospital where she had been in intensive care, watching on with pride.

London’s where I go to work every day.
London’s where I take my classes on school trips to marvel at museums and be inspired by galleries.
London’s where I took them to Parliament to learn about how our country works.
London’s where I stand in a classroom every day to teach them love, respect, kindness and the odd adverbial phrase here and there.

London’s where I’ve fallen in and out of love.
London’s where I’ve kissed under Tower Bridge.
London’s where I’ve held hands on the Northern Line.
London’s where I’ve argued at a theatre in the West End and I’ve realised what I really wanted from relationships.
London’s where I’ve gazed into the hazy sex eyes of a lover over avocado toast at Brixton Market.
London’s where I’ve been single for over and year and have reflected on exactly what I need from a relationship.
London’s where I’ll find it.

London’s where I’ve held hands with a stranger on the tube because she was being subjected to racial abuse.
London’s where I’ve bonded with strangers over sport.
London’s where I’ve helped a girl who’d just been mugged call the police.
London’s where I’ve had a drink spilled on me in a club and have been offered spare clothing from random girls.
London’s where I go to the loo on a night out and receive compliments from other girls on how I look.
London’s where I connect with a complete stranger with just one look on public transport.

London’s where I live.
London’s where I love.
London’s where I laugh.
London’s where I help.
London’s where I feel alive.
London’s where I feel inspired.
London’s where I feel desire.
London’s where I feel safe.
London’s where I am.

London

None of this will ever change.
