How to pull yourself out of a shit spiral

Ennui. Not only a bloody good word that makes you seem super smart but also a general feeling that has permeated my social media recently.

Everyone’s fed up with their jobs, blogs, boyfriends and tampon bills and the sense of sadness is palpable.

Tuesday evening I found myself hosting a Periscope pity party where some of my best blog friends came online to pull me out of my Debbie Downer day. We discussed ways to make yourself feeling better and I’ve used their ideas these past few days to great effect.

So now imma share them with you.

Eat all the food

Straight after I’d mopped up my dripping nose that began during my Periscope blubfest, I ordered my favourite Chinese food. Soz for encouraging comfort eating but just snacking on something sexy really does perk up the mood.

Join a Whatsapp group

Preferably that has 20 other blog girls in it. Who talk about sex, periods, blogging and all the other stuff that is constantly on a late twenty-something’s mind. The photo sharing of hot rugby men and generally being able to rant about your woes is the epitome of uplifting.

Start a project

Whether its crocheting,  colouring or cooking, setting your mind to something other than your own misery helps to distract you for a while.

Read something funny

I trawled through Tumblr and Buzzfeed in search of memes and list inspiration and the 2 minutes of actual belly laughing at an article about Scottish Facebook cheered me right up.

Have friends

Proper friends. The type that message you every day to check how you are and don’t get offended that your head has been so far up your own arse that you haven’t asked how they are. The type that send you cute cards in the post (thanks Amy) or even a DM on Twitter to compliment you or tell you to keep your head high. All the feels guys.

Have a word with yourself

I think this is key. It’s fine to wallow. To curse your bad luck and reminisce over better times but actually,  sometimes you just need to tell yourself to get on with it. That chores need to be done, life needs to be lived. If I didn’t give myself a talking to, I know my shit spiral will hit the depths of Hell and I just can’t afford to let that happen.

So here are a few ways that I pull myself out of my blues. Do you have any tips?

    Omg so yes.
    I am a very practical girl. I used to get very emotional about things but I’ve changed in the past few years. I tend to write down my problems and come up with a plan on how to fix them. If they can’t be fixed, then I put it out of my mind. Easier said than done, but it gets better with time.
