Isn’t it wonderful to be whisked off for a meal on the Southbank, followed by a cocktail bar and if you’re lucky – the theatre, for a date? Or if you’re more active – a physical activity with a bit of healthy competition thrown in. Whatever your interests, potential suitors will try and take them into account when planning a great date. But it’s not reality is it?
Match have completed research which reveals the everyday household activities most likely to cause arguments among British couples. These are:
- Navigating a car (32% said they had argued over this)
- Choosing what to watch on TV (22%)
- Decorating (22%)
- Food shopping (22%)
- Building flat-pack furniture (20%)
Using these findings, Match will host a brand new dating event designed to test potential couples’ compatibility by putting them into tricky situations together. ‘Reality Dates’ will match singles up and ask them to construct flat-pack furniture together to see how they get on.
The theory is – if you can meet a potential match in a usually stressful situation you’ll get to see the ‘real’ them. Do they try and take over? Are they moody if it doesn’t go right? Or do they take it all in their stride, show clear direction and have a sense of humour about things?
They always say that you’ll never know if someone’s THE ONE until you’ve moved in together or been on holiday together because you have to face potentially stressful situations in each other’s pockets. We’ve all had the boyfriend we thought was perfect until we went on a long road trip with them and saw the road rage and panic over petrol – NOT ATTRACTIVE. Or the guy who seemed like a dream, until you moved in together and he expected you to do all the cooking and cleaning – NIGHTMARE.
I’ll be heading over to Gilgamesh in Camden on Wednesday, where I will receive a free drink and toolkit before meeting a fellow single and being given a piece of furniture to assemble. We will be given 30 minutes to complete the task before moving onto a new single with a different item to construct.
The Reality dating event will be on offer on Wednesday 12th April and Wednesday 19th April at Gilgamesh, Camden Market, London from 6.30-8.30pm.
You can register for the event by emailing RealityDates@eu.match.com with your name, age, gender, date you would like to attend and stating whether you are looking for a man or a woman. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Hopefully see you on Wednesday!
